Bio

The story of Melinda’s is one fit for a Soap Opera! According to belizemagazine.com, Melinda Sharp created the original sauces, and then their distributor trademarked her name (In 1991)! So Melinda Sharp’s hot sauces are created by the original creator, and the Melinda’s sauces are made by another company entirely. The current Melinda’s operates out of Irving Texas in the US.

Bottle Inspection

This is the mini (2oz) bottle, so I cant speak for the full size. It is transparent with a transparent label as well. Straight to the point.

Pourability

This is a bit tougher to open than usual. Not sure if this is because of the small bottle or not, but I can see some people having difficulty opening this cap. Twisting it open goes in the same direction as the cap to botle threads, and can completely open the bottle, so double check the base to make sure it doesnt fly off when shaking/pouring. Squeezing this bottle, combined with the thickness of the sauce, it comes out slow and thick. Like a small squeeze paint bottle. The bottle (after being squeezed) did want to take air back in and snap back to being fully expanded.

Smell & Taste

The Sriracha smell is here. Which I find surprising considering they are using a Jalapeno pepper mash instead of birds eye/thai chilis. Taste is immediate heat. This one is not as sweet as some of the other Srirachas that you see on the market. Again, this could be the small bottle, but this is a sriracha for those that want a burn! The taste is right there with other Srirachas. The garlic shines through more than other similar sauces though. It is a nice touch. The spice hangs around on your tongue as well. That is definitely the Jalapeno vs Bird’s Eye difference.

Final Thoughts

Despite not being a truly authentic Sriracha (Using Jalapenos vs Bird’s Eye), this is a fantastic Sriracha. Few ingredients are involved in this sauce and every single one shines though in the final product. This sauce can 100% become a daily driver.

Chris Thompson

Chris found his love for hot sauce in 2009. After moving away from home and learning to cook, he ruined many meals. Being too poor to throw the food away, it was then covered in hot sauce just to make it edible. This quickly evolved into a love for the nuances and intricacies of various peppers and how they can change the overall depth of a dish.
